Falling Rock – In what was an emotional night for Herbert Hoover, the Huskies played their last regular season game at Joe Eddie Cowley field, beating Mingo Central 55-3.
The Huskies called “The Joe” home from 1965-2022. Their new school and field will be ready to roll when the 2023 season begins. Hoover, looking to bolster their playoff rating, welcomed the Mingo Central Miners.
Hoover scored first and fast with a 28-yard strike from Dane Hatfield to Levi Paxton with Paxton nailing the PAT to make it 7-0. With the Miners pinned deep in their territory on fourth-and-long, Marquise Walker blocked a punt, scooping and scoring to put Hoover up 14- 0.
Hatfield added to the lead with a 43-yard scoring strike to Jacob Burns to go up 21-0 to end the first quarter.
To start the second quarter, the Miners threw an interception from the 21 yard line to Levi Paxton who returned to the 39. Rocco Frye scored from 12 yards out to put Hoover up 28-0. Hatfield shined again, intercepting a pass and throwing another touchdown to make it 35-0. To end the half, Dane Hatfield ran the ball in from the a yard out to go up 42-0.
The second half was played with eight minute quarters as the Huskies continued to roll.
Hoover moves to 5-2 on the season and will be on the road for their final two games traveling to Poca. The Miners travel to Chapmanville.
