Bradshaw – Richlands (Va.) entered Wednesday’s play at the Little General Showcase at River View High School with a 4-5 record.
When the Blue Tornado boarded the bus home Thursday they had stunned undefeated Tolsia and defending West Virginia Class A state champion Tug Valley to move to 6-5.
Down nine to Tug Valley in Wednesday’s first game, Richlands roared back for a 49-38 win. The Blue Tornado was led by 20 points from Jaylyn Altizer.
Altizer did her opening performance one point better Thursday to lead Richlands to a 38-33 win over the Rebels.
Tolsia opened the event with a 50-43 win over River View paced by 20 points from Kerrigan Salmons. Autumn Block scored 14 points and Lynndsey Cassell added 10.
In Thursday’s game, Block led the Rebels with 10 points and Salmons scored seven.
The game of the tournament was the clash between River View and Tug Valley Thursday.
All-stater Kaylea Baisden hit both ends of a 1-plus-1 with 1.9 seconds on the clock to give the Panthers a 56-55 win in a thriller.
Baisden scored 28 points, including five 3-pointers, in the River View win and 13 in the Richlands game.
Haylie Payne scored 25 against Tug Valley, while Ali Morgan dropped in 21. Payne had 13 against Tolsia and Trista Lester scored 11.
The All-Tournament team included Erica Lamie, Rachael Rife and Altizer from Richlands, along with Cassell, Block and Salmons from Tolsia. River View was represented by Morgan and Payne, while Audrey Evans and Baisden were named from Tug Valley.
