The Midland Trail golf team begs to differ.
Led by three freshman and a sophomore, the Patriots finished two-shots ahead of Charleston Catholic to win the Class A Region 3 golf championship played at Pipestem State Park.
Both teams were tied after 18 holes with a team total of 242. The tie-breaker was the fourth score on the team which was Trail sophomore Cameron Thomas with an 87, two shots better than the player for the Irish.
Landyn Cordle had the low round of the freshman trio for Midland Trail with a 79, followed by Van Wood with an 81 and Jacob Brown carded an 82.
Andrew Addair from River View was the low medalist with an even-par 72, followed by Rocky Frye from Montcalm with a 75. Both players qualified for the state tournament as individuals.
The state tournament will be played Oct. 8-9 on the Speidel Course at Oglebay Park in Wheeling.

South Charleston – The two-year AAA Region 3 championship reign for Greenbrier East came to an end Monday, but the Spartans are still headed back to the big dance in Wheeling.
Firing a team total of 236, Greenbrier East finished runner-up to George Washington who ended with a team score of 228. Both teams qualify for the state tournament next week.
Sophomore Isaac Hutchison from East was the low medalist, shooting 70, followed by Isaac Cantrell with an 81 and Seth Napier shot 85.
