Beckley 7, Princeton 2
Princeton – Beckley jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and went on to defeat Princeton 7-2 Thursday in a Class AAA Region 3, Section 2 elimination game.
Aubrey Smallwood struckout 17 batters to get the win for the Flying Eagles in the circle. The sophomore standout recorded her 300th strikeout of the season and 500th of her career in the win.
Smallwood was also big at the plate smacking a home run and driving in three runs.
Alexis Smith added two hits and drove in two runs for Beckley who will now play Greenbrier East Friday night in Fairlea at 6:30 p.m.
Hayden Jones had a home run and drove in both runs for the Tigers.
Wyoming East 20, Westside 0
New Richmond – Wyoming East collected 20 hits Thursday, ending Westside’s season with a 20-0 win over the Renegades New Richmond.
Hayley Adkins, Kayley Bane and Andrea Laxton collected three hits each in the win while freshman Carli Raye launched her first career home run.
Wyoming East will host Bluefield on Friday needing to win twice in order to win the sectional championship.
Greenbrier West 5, Richwood 4
Crawley – Brilee Redden swatted a walkoff double in the bottom of the seventh to help Greenbrier West avoid an upset and secure a 5-4 win over Richwood in the sectional tournament Thursday.
Redden finished with two hits as did Emma Ames who notched a pair of RBIs.
West advances to the winners bracket where it will host Charleston Catholic on Friday with a spot in the sectional title game on the line.
