Charmco – Greenbrier East rallied late in the final set to take a 2-1 win over county foe Greenbrier West Tuesday night.
The AAA No. 4 ranked Spartans took set one 25-14 before the Class A No. 1 ranked Cavaliers bounced back with a 25-19 win to even the match.
In the final set, West took a 10-7 lead only to see East even the match at 13 apiece. The hometown ladies had two set points, but the Spartans withstood the challenge to take a wild 18-16 win.
Both Greenbrier County teams beat Nicholas County in the tri-match. East won 2-0 (25-9, 25-11), while West beat the Grizzlies 2-1 (25-14, 19-25, 15-8).
Alexis Stack had 23 kills for the Spartans and 21 digs. Regan Rink added 19 kills and four blocks. Mollie Pack had 15 kills, 21 digs and nine aces. Mackenna McClure handed out 54 assists.
Preslee Treadway had 21 kills and 27 digs, while Paige Dean had 12 blocks over the five sets for Greenbrier West. Megan Griffith had 40 digs and Maddy Sweet had 50 assists.
Wyoming East d. Oak Hill 3-0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-15)
Oak Hill – Wyoming East traveled to Fayette County Tuesday night and knocked off Oak Hill 3-0.
The Warriors cruised in the first set with a 25-8 win and backed that up with a 25-18 and 25-15 wins to take the match.
Carli Raye led the front line attack with nine kills followed by Amanda Silva with six kills and Kinlee Cook had five.
Lauren Staton and Kaelyn Meadows each had three aces. Staton and Kenzie McGraw has 12 assists apiece.
Midland Trail d. Summers County 3-2 (25-14, 25-18, 13-25, 16-25, 15-12)
Hico – Midland Trail knocked off Summers County 3-2 in a back-and-forth contest.
The Patriots took a 2-0 lead (25-14, 25-18) in the best-of-five match before the Bobcats grabbed the next two sets (25-13, 25-16). Trail secured the match with a 15-12 win in the decisive set.
Late Monday
James Monroe d. Summers County 3-0 (25-5, 25-9, 25-12)
Hinton – James Monroe improved to 16-2-1 with a sweep of Summers County Monday night.
The Class AA No. 3 Mavericks (tied with Philip Barbour) dropped 35 kills in the win led by Mya Dunlap and Aliyah Clarkson with eight kills each. Ava Pitzer ripped seven winners, while Ava Dunlap and Maggie Boroski had four kills each.
James Monroe recorded 19 aces paced by Skylar Clarkson with seven and Hannah Rhodes with five. Rhodes also had 15 assists and Skylar Clarkson had 13 assists.
