PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital (PCH) celebrated the grand opening of 18 renovated, state-of-the-art renovated private patient rooms with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The event marked the completion of Phase One of the hospital’s fourth-floor renovation project. Each of the private patient rooms features new, high-tech Stryker beds that offer maximum flexibility in patient positioning and wireless care team alerting to enhance patient safety.
The rooms also feature beautifully tiled private bathrooms and care technology designed to enhance patient comfort and convenience.
“We are committed to creating a true healing environment,” said PCH President and CEO Karen Bowling. “These rooms incorporate the best available technology, but we were also intentional about the lighting, colors, and finishes to ensure a calming, comfortable space for our patients.”
In addition to cutting-edge design, the new unit highlights PCH’s dedication to incorporating local art into its healing spaces. Through its “Pictures of Home” initiative, the hospital has partnered with renowned local photographers, including Hal Brainerd, Steve Jessee, Roger Shrewsbury, Doug Moore, Eric Profitt, Rick Burgess, and Tony Tabor (who is also an ICU nurse at PCH). Their landscape photography, showcased in the patient rooms and corridors, reflects the natural beauty of southern West Virginia.
“Research shows that art can positively impact the patient experience by making hospital spaces feel more inviting and soothing,” Bowling added. “By featuring work from local artists, we are not only enhancing the healing environment but also celebrating the beauty of our region.”
Phase Two of the project will renovate the remaining fourth floor rooms and will be complete in August 2025, ultimately increasing the hospital’s total private patient room capacity by 18.
