MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man who sexually assaulted a child back in 1980’s pleaded guilty.
Alan Andrew Brooks, age 71 of Princeton and formerly of Bluefield, West Virginia, pled guilty on Monday, August 26, 2024 in the Circuit Court of Mercer County to three counts of sexual assault-3rd degree.
According to Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Brian K. Cochran, Brooks faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on November 4, 2024, by Mercer County Circuit Judge William Sadler.
Cochran said that this investigation began when the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint in mid-October, 2023 from a lady from out-of-state who stated that she was assaulted by Brooks almost 40 years ago when she was 12 years old in 1984, and that the assaults continued until she was 14 years of age. Brooks was 31 years old when the assaults began.
Cochran said that the Sheriff’s Department was able to confirm the assaults through recent text messages between the victim and Brooks as the victim recently confronted Brooks about the abuse.
According to Cochran, the abuse occurred both in Green Valley and in Bluefield, West Virginia between the fall of 1984 and the spring of 1987. Brooks was indicted by a Mercer County Grand Jury in February, 2024.
Cochran commended the investigation completed by the Sheriff’s Department and thanked all of law enforcement, and his staff at the Prosecuting Attorney’s office, for the important work that they do.
