PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Preparations are underway at the Princeton City Clerk’s office for the upcoming City election scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Voters will decide the fate of four Ward Council seats, as the terms of the following council members are set to expire on June 30, 2025:
- Jacqueline Rucker (Ward One)
- Marshall Lytton (Ward Two)
- James Hawkins (Ward Three)
- Joseph Allen (Ward Four)
Candidate Filing Information
The filing period for candidates interested in running for City Council begins on February 1, 2025, and ends on April 1, 2025. Nominating petitions and candidate information packets will be available at the Princeton City Clerk’s office, located at 800 Bee Street.
Candidates must meet eligibility requirements outlined by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the Princeton City Charter, which include:
- Being at least 18 years old.
- Having been a resident of Princeton for at least one year prior to the new Council term starting July 1, 2025.
To qualify, candidates must collect at least 25 valid signatures from registered voters residing in their respective wards. It is recommended that candidates gather more than the minimum number of signatures to account for potential disqualifications.
Voter Registration
Residents who are not yet registered to vote can do so at the Mercer County Courthouse’s Voter Registration Office. The registration deadline for eligibility in the June 3 election is May 13, 2025. Registrations completed after this date will not be processed in time for the election.
Voters who previously cast provisional ballots during the 2023 election are encouraged to contact the Mercer County Voter Registration Office to ensure their records have been resolved.
Absentee and Early Voting
Applications for absentee ballots are available from the Princeton City Clerk’s Office at the Municipal Building. Early in-person voting will be conducted at the same location during regular business hours from Wednesday, May 21, through Saturday, May 31, 2025. The office will also be open for early voting on Saturday, May 24, and Saturday, May 31.
