CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Public Service Commission of West Virginia on Monday approved the sale of Armstrong Public Service District’s water facilities to West Virginia-American Water Co. (WVAWC).
WVAWC has operated the Fayette County PSD’s water facilities under an emergency interim agreement approved on August 14, 2023. The Commission on August 24, 2023, found the district to be a failing utility and ordered WVAWC to acquire it, while recommending the same to the Fayette County Commission (FCC).
The two companies filed a joint application with the Commission last October 18 seeking PSC approval of the sale. They also provided a resolution from the FCC approving the acquisition.
Monday’s order requires Armstrong to complete its Powellton tank project before closing the acquisition.
The district serves 879 water customers.
