CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Public Service Commission (PSC) of West Virginia has established a task force to develop protocols for notifying customers about outages in utilities and cable services.
This task force is required to convene its initial meeting by June 14 and submit its final recommendations to the Commission within 60 days. This initiative stems from the Commission’s decision on April 8 to initiate a comprehensive inquiry into outage notifications for customers of utility and cable companies.
The companies included in this investigation are Mountaineer Gas Co., Hope Gas Inc., Consumers Gas Utility Co., Union Oil & Gas, Inc., Cardinal Natural Gas Co., West Virginia-American Water Co., Beckley Water Co., Appalachian Power Co., Wheeling Power Co., Monongahela Power/Potomac Edison Power Co., Morgantown Utility Board, Frontier West Virginia Inc., and Optimum.
Each of these companies has provided responses by April 29 detailing their current outage notification procedures and proposed improvements. The Commission’s order stipulates the creation of a Utility and Cable Service Notification Task Force to deliberate and recommend best practices and standardized procedures for informing customers about utility and cable service outages.
The task force will be led by commission staff, and the companies’ participation will be mandatory.
