CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Public Service Commission of West Virginia opened a general investigation Monday into the operations of Waste Management of West Virginia, Inc. (WM).
The company was ordered to file an answer within 10 days.
The investigation was prompted by a complaint filed with the Commission by Delegate Andy Shamblin, R-Kanawha. He said he has received “numerous customer complaints” regarding the company’s failure to pick up refuse in the Cross Lanes area of Kanawha County. The Commission also has received complaints from WM customers.
“Customers reported missed pickup days, incomplete pickups, and little to no notification of changes in the service schedule,” the Commission noted. “Some customers reported that garbage has not been picked up for weeks.”
Shamblin said these customers do not have an alternative service. He also asked whether ordering WM to provide billing credits for missed pickups would be appropriate.
Staff was ordered to investigate and file its report within 30 days of this order. Additionally, the Commission said it also was directing staff to investigate any problems in any area where WM offers refuse service. That second report is to be filed within 60 days of the order.
The company is split into six regions in West Virginia: Bridgeport, Charleston, Chester, Martinsburg, Parkersburg, and Pecks Mill.
