CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two public comment hearings and another to take evidence are scheduled in October into a 6.97 percent rate increase sought by Black Diamond Power Co.
The Public Service Commission of West Virginia scheduled public comment hearings for 5:30 p.m. October 14 at the Clay County Circuit Courtroom in the Clay County Courthouse, 246 Main St., Clay; and 5:30 p.m. October 21 at Mullens City Hall, 316 Moran Ave., Mullens.
The evidentiary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 31 at the PSC headquarters, 201 Brooks St., Charleston.
If approved as filed on August 1, the proposal would increase the average monthly residential bill by $11.12, based on the usage of 834 kilowatt hours. Black Diamond asked to make the new rates effective on December 1.

All comments and petitions to intervene should reference Case No. 25-0702-E-P.
The Charleston-based company purchases its power from Appalachian Power Co. and resells that power to 4,886 customers primarily in Clay, Wyoming and Raleigh counties.
In a separate matter, the Commission was petitioned by its legal staff on September 21 to open a general investigation into the operations of the company, based on a number of complaints to the PSC.
