WINFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Putnam County man faces multiple charges after allegedly strangling his girlfriend as she attempted to end their relationship.
According to a criminal complaint, Deputy Sizemore was approached by several people at the Speedway in Winfield on August 18. The witnesses reported seeing the victim being strangled by her boyfriend, Christian Compton, outside their Winfield Road residence.
The victim told deputies that she was in the process of breaking up with Compton when he persuaded her to come outside and give him a hug. As she attempted to return inside, Compton allegedly grabbed her by the neck and pulled her out of view of a Ring doorbell camera.
The complaint states that Compton wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and covered her mouth and nose, preventing her from breathing. She reportedly escaped and made it back inside the residence.
Compton then left the area and allegedly sent the victim messages threatening suicide.
Deputies later found Compton at the Winfield boat ramp and took him into custody. She reportedly showed investigators several recent bruises she said Compton had caused.
Christian Compton is charged with domestic battery, strangulation and kidnapping.
All charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
