CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A mixed bag of weather is set to roll through the region on Friday, ushering in a mix of snow, gusty winds, and rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Rainfall:
Rainfall is expected to sweep across the region from southwest to northeast, starting early Friday afternoon in Kentucky and Ohio.
The evening commute on Friday is projected to be wet area-wide. As the system progresses, rain will transition to snow from west to east late Friday into early Saturday.
Higher rainfall amounts are anticipated across Southeast Ohio, Northeast Kentucky, and the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Areas previously affected by flooding earlier in the week will be closely monitored for the potential of localized to minor flooding, with corresponding headlines possibly being issued.
Gusty Winds:
Gusty winds are forecasted to make their entrance late Friday morning in the mountains, extending to the lowlands by Friday afternoon.
The peak wind gusts are predicted to occur from Friday night through Saturday afternoon. Wind speeds will be more pronounced above 3,000 feet in the mountains, reaching gusts of 50 mph and above.
Across much of the lowlands and lower elevations of the mountains, gusts are expected to range between 40-50 mph, potentially prompting wind-related headlines.
Snowfall:
The snowfall is set to commence late Friday in the mountainous regions, gradually making its way across the lowlands from west to east by early Saturday morning.
The snow is anticipated to taper off in the lowlands by Saturday evening, while upslope snow continues in the mountains throughout the weekend.
Elevations above 3,000 feet may experience higher snowfall amounts, ranging between 2 to 4 inches, with 1 to 3 inches expected elsewhere in the mountains and foothills.
The lowlands, on the other hand, are likely to witness little to no accumulation.
Residents are urged to stay informed, exercise caution, and stay updated with the latest weather advisories as this diverse weather system unfolds across the region.
