The floods of 1985 devastated many places throughout West Virginia and left communities in shambles. Cass Scenic Railroad State Park was one of the many places that suffered destruction because of the floods and as a result, the Park had to suspend its Cass to Durbin excursions due to significant flood damage along the route.
Nearly four decades later, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park has announced that the Cass to Durbin excursions will return upon completion of the new bridge.
Officials announced Monday that bridge construction on the Greenbrier River Line at Trout Run has resumed.
Earlier this month, two 65-foot-long bridge beams were delivered to Cass and transported to the construction site via rail. The massive beams were successfully installed by Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad Crews, West Virginia DOH, and the West Virginia Rail Authority. Crews will work over the next several weeks to complete the bridge ahead of winter.
Cass Scenic Railroad will announce more information for its 2023 season soon.
