RAINELLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Rainelle Volunteer Fire Department says crews responded to numerous calls for service overnight as heavy rain caused flooding across the area.
According to the department, firefighters operated from 7 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday, responding to various emergencies while monitoring rising water and assisting the community throughout the weather event.
The department said crews monitored water levels, cleared downed trees, checked on neighborhoods, and worked through the night. The Rainelle Firemenettes also provided meals for responders during the operation.
Officials reported that water levels at Sewell Creek, Boggs Creek, Wolfpen Creek, and the Meadow River have now crested and are receding. However, residents are advised that high water may still affect low-lying and poorly drained areas.
The department said roadways have reopened but urged motorists to use caution when traveling through the area.
Residents whose homes or property sustained damage during the flooding are encouraged to complete a damage assessment survey provided by West Virginia Emergency Management. The Rainelle Fire Department said additional information on submitting damage reports will be shared.
The department thanked the agencies and departments that assisted during the flooding response.
