BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission has approved the annexation of Mount Hope to extend its municipal borders into Raleigh County.
The commission voted during its Regular Meeting on Tuesday morning to approve the annexation.
The annexation does not alter the borders of Raleigh County or Fayette County, it just extends the municipal boundaries of Mount Hope itself.
The annexed land consists of over 100 acres and nearly two miles along U.S. Route 19 extending from the Crossroads Mall exit to the pipeline yard in the Bradley area.
The annexed land consists of 14 parcels of vacant land. There are currently no homes or structures within the boundaries of the annexed land except for Northside Properties which owns the vacant parcels.
The purpose of the annexation is to allow for an extension of water infrastructure to this area.
Beckley Water Company spoke against the annexation stating that they hold the “exclusive rights” for water development and service in this area.
Since the annexation has been approved, the City of Mount Hope will now work with a private developer for future development on this side of U.S. 19.
