BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission has formally recognized Commission President Greg Duckworth for his testimony before the United States Special Committee on Aging in February.
Duckworth addressed the ongoing opioid epidemic and its impact on communities, particularly older Americans.
During its March 18 meeting, the commission adopted a resolution commending Duckworth for his leadership in combating substance abuse in Raleigh County and beyond.
His testimony highlighted the challenges local governments face in addressing opioid addiction, as well as the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and federal agencies to strengthen prevention, treatment, and recovery programs.
Raleigh County has been at the forefront of tackling the opioid crisis, implementing community-based initiatives aimed at supporting recovery efforts.
The resolution states that Duckworth’s advocacy at the national level underscores the critical role of local governments in shaping effective policies and securing resources to combat addiction.
The commission’s resolution acknowledges Duckworth’s dedication and leadership, stating that his efforts serve as a model for other communities striving to mitigate the effects of opioid abuse.
The resolution has been entered into the official county records, and a copy will be presented to Duckworth as a token of appreciation for his service.
