SOPHIA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Raleigh County couple has been charged after police say they left their three young children unsupervised for more than 12 hours in an apartment where drugs and weapons were present.
According to a criminal complaint, Kenneth Neal Conley, 46, and Tamara Ann Conley, 44, are accused of child neglect creating a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.
The complaint states that on October 1, 2025, the couple allegedly left their children — ages 10, 10, and 8 — alone inside an apartment in Sophia.
During that time, the children reportedly became involved in a fight that included knives, a chemical spray, and the reported possession of a firearm.
When officers arrived to perform a welfare check, they said they found multiple items of drug paraphernalia with methamphetamine residue in plain view and within reach of the children.
Investigators said the unsupervised conditions and exposure to controlled substances created a significant risk to the children’s safety.
Both Kenneth and Tamara Conley have been charged with child neglect creating risk of injury. They remain at Southern Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond.
