BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley-Raleigh County Emergency Services has issued a Preparedness Watch in anticipation of significant rainfall expected to arrive on Saturday, February 15, 2025, and continue through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the forecast shows a 100% chance of precipitation, with Raleigh County expected to receive over two inches of rain.
With the ground already saturated from recent rain and snow, officials warn of an increased risk of flooding, fallen trees, road hazards, and electrical issues.
Emergency management officials are working with local governments, the Department of Highways, and the West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WV EMD) to prepare residents and businesses.
While no shelters are currently open, some have been placed on standby if conditions worsen.
Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to take precautions and prepare for possible evacuation.
Officials recommend assembling an emergency supply kit with essential items such as medicine, glasses, and important documents.
Emergency crews will monitor stream levels and may issue evacuations if conditions become dangerous.
Authorities urge residents to report any flooding issues to emergency responders by calling 911 and to avoid driving through flooded roadways.
