RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Raleigh County man is behind bars after shooting another man and killing him.
According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, on Monday, October 5, 2021, deputies responded to Burmeister Ave for a shooting. Â When the victim was loaded into the ambulance, he told authorities that Joey Meadows had shot him. Â The victim, Herbert Jeffrey Howerton Jr, later died due to his injuries.
The victim’s girlfriend told deputies that she and her boyfriend’s father got into an altercation, and he slapped her. Â She then went next door and told Joey Meadows about the argument, and shortly after that; she heard two gunshots. Â She then said she heard Joey tell Herbet Jeffrey Howerton Sr that he would revoke his bond if he talked about the shooting.
Deputies later interviewed Herbert Howerton Sr, who said that he and Tabatha Templeton got in an argument over cigarettes, then she left. Â After that, he stated that Joey Meadows came to the door stating, “slap him, slap him.” Â He then heard two gunshots, followed by his son saying he was shot.
The suspect, Joey Meadows, told authorities that he did take the gun out of his pants but stated that it accidentally went off.
Meadows is charged with wanton endangerment and murder. Â He is currently in Southern Regional Jail under no bond.
