CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Gov. Patrick Morrisey and WorkForce West Virginia announced that residents and workers in Raleigh County are now eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) following severe storms and flooding in February.
The announcement expands the list of eligible counties to include Raleigh, which joins Logan, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Wayne, and Wyoming.
These areas were declared federal disaster zones on February 26, 2025, after a request by Gov. Morrisey.
The declaration follows severe weather that began on February 15, bringing heavy storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides.
DUA benefits are available to individuals whose employment was directly impacted by the disaster. This includes workers who lost their jobs, were unable to reach their job due to disaster conditions, or were set to start a job but were prevented from doing so.
Self-employed individuals, including farmers, are also eligible and must submit documentation of previous income within 21 days of applying.
The deadline to file a claim is April 28, 2025.
Applications can be submitted by emailing ucpolicy@wv.gov or calling 304-558-3340 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
WorkForce West Virginia also provides reemployment services such as resume help, job search assistance, and job placement.
