RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A worsening road slip on Prosperity Road in Raleigh County will require a piling wall for repairs, according to the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH).
The slip, located at approximately mile marker 4.4, was first reported in February.
Initially, WVDOH District 10 planned to stabilize the area using soil nails—long steel bolts driven into the hillside.
However, over the weekend of March 7, the slip expanded to about 100 feet in length, claiming one lane of the two-lane road.
District 10 Engineer Ryland Musick stated that engineers will now construct a piling wall as a permanent solution.
The wall will involve driving steel beams vertically into the ground to support concrete slabs, with the hillside being backfilled before the road is rebuilt.
A utility pole will need to be relocated before work can begin.
Engineers are currently designing the project, and construction is expected to start later this spring.
