BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Veterans & First Responders Museum will hold a historic anchor-setting ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 201 South Eisenhower Drive in Beckley.
The public is invited to attend the installation of the mooring anchor from the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), a legendary American aircraft carrier that served the nation for nearly 40 years.
The ship’s anchor was removed earlier this year as the USS John F. Kennedy was dismantled.
After being transported to West Virginia and refurbished, the 6,000-pound anchor will be hoisted onto its permanent display by Glen’s Towing, honoring the carrier’s legacy and symbolizing service and sacrifice.
Retired Navy Captain Jerry Shields, who served aboard the USS John F. Kennedy, will attend as a special guest to share reflections and participate in the tribute.
The museum encourages veterans, first responders, and the public to join in commemorating the ship and the men and women who served aboard it.
