BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Dozens of friends and family members from throughout the community recently gathered to celebrate Raleigh County’s own Hope Yates in honor of her 100th birthday.
Yates, a lifelong resident of Crab Orchard, was born on March 26, 1923, to Kenna and Lottie Martin. She is the oldest of 8 children and was joined at her 100th birthday celebration by her three living sisters.
The occasion fell on Sunday, March 26, 2023, and saw friends, family, and fellow church members assemble at Pasquale’s Italian Restaraunt on Harper Park Drive in Beckley for a celebratory gathering which necessitated the utilization of both indoor and outdoor sections of the establishment to accommodate the roughly 75 guests who made their way out to celebrate Yates on her big day.
“She’s been the matriarch of our family,” says Alisa Hope Hancock Evans, the second-eldest of Yates’ five grandchildren. “She is known for her gardens and great cooking, but most of all she is known for the unconditional love and joy she has always shown to everyone.”
Yates is a mother of three and, in addition to her five grandchildren, has five great grandchildren. She is a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church.
