James Monroe 10, Midland Trail 9
Lindside – James Monroe rallied from a 7-0 deficit Monday to claim a 10-9 win over Midland Trail in the Class A Region 3 championship series opener in Lindside.
With the win James Monroe takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series, standing one victory away from the state tournament. Game 2 will be played Wednesday in Hico.
Chloe Bert and Bryleigh Thomas led the charge for the Mavericks, collecting three runs each. Bert drove in a trio of runs in the win.
The Mavericks did most of their damage in the fifth, scoring five runs to draw within one at 8-7. They then followed with three more in the sixth and escaped the seventh as Trail stranded a pair of runners on the bases.
Four different Patriots collected two hits each for Trail with Kylie Ramsey driving in a trio of runs to lead the charge.
Errors proved costly on both sides with only 11 of the 19 runs being earned.
