HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Police are investigating a shoplifting incident at the Dollar General Market on 1114th Avenue in Huntington after a man and woman allegedly stole items and left the store without paying.
Officers responded Monday night around 9:00 p.m. after store employee Ian Brock Delancey reported suspicious behavior by the pair. According to Delancey, the two individuals entered the store around 8:53 p.m. and appeared to be avoiding staff as they walked through the aisles.
Delancey said he approached the male at the checkout, who attempted to purchase a BIC lighter. The man presented an Ohio ID identifying him as Gregory A. Carter, born December 12, 1986. Moments later, Carter left the register and continued walking around the store before leaving with the female—without paying.
Security footage later reviewed by Delancey showed the female concealing a bottle of Old Spice spray deodorant in her bag around 9:19 p.m. The BIC lighter Carter handled was also never returned to the shelf.
Store manager Scottie Meredith, who has previously dealt with similar incidents, identified the woman on video as Savannah Roberts. Meredith stated that Roberts had been trespassed from the store for a prior shoplifting offense.
The total value of the stolen items was $13.86. Meredith said he plans to review additional surveillance footage to determine if more merchandise was taken.
Using Huntington Police Department mugshots, officers confirmed the identities of both suspects as Carter and Roberts. Charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
