NICHOLAS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities in Greenbrier County are investigating a homicide after a Richwood woman was arrested in connection with the death of her missing daughter.
According to the West Virginia State Police, Staci L. Wind, 50, of Richwood, filed a missing persons report with the Richwood Police Department on May 18 for her daughter, Ayla C. Wind, 26, also of Richwood.
Troopers with the West Virginia State Police Richwood Detachment responded Friday, May 22, to Summit Lake in Greenbrier County after receiving a report of human remains being found.
During the investigation, troopers discovered a shallow grave containing a deceased body.
The West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Unit assisted investigators at the scene.
On Saturday, May 23, authorities arrested Staci Wind at a residence on Riverside Drive in Richwood. She has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ayla Wind.
State police said Wind was transported to Central Regional Jail, where she is awaiting arraignment.
The investigation remains ongoing.
