School Closures Announced Due to Extensive Storm Damage

(LOOTPRESS) –  In the wake of a severe storm that swept through the region, several schools have been forced to close as communities assess the widespread damage. The storm, which brought heavy rain, strong winds, and flash flooding, left a trail of destruction, with fallen trees, power outages, and damaged buildings affecting multiple areas.

Local officials announced that schools in several counties will remain closed as cleanup and repair efforts continue.

The counties that have announced closures for Monday, September 30th, are:

Wyoming County

McDowell County

Mercer County

Tazewell County, VA

Crews are working around the clock to restore power and clear debris, but many school buildings have been directly impacted by the storm, with some sustaining structural damage.

In the hardest-hit areas, schools may be closed for an extended period while repairs are underway. Many districts have shifted to remote learning for the time being, though internet access has been spotty due to widespread outages. Teachers are preparing online lessons where possible, and officials are working on providing alternative resources for students who may not have access to technology during this time.

Parents and students are being urged to check their district’s websites and social media channels for updates on closures and reopening timelines. Community shelters have also been set up in some areas for families in need of temporary housing due to storm damage.

Emergency response teams are continuing to monitor the situation, and further updates on school closures and recovery efforts are expected in the coming days. For now, safety remains the priority as the community works to rebuild after the destructive storm.
