Coal City – Independence scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, ending county rival Shady Spring’s season with a 5-1 victory in the Class AA Region 3, Section 2 championship game.
Kaylen Parks led Indy by driving in three runs while Destiny Blankenship notched two hits.
Indy advances to the regional championship where it will await the winner of Saturday’s matchup between Wyoming East and Bluefield.
