WASHINGTON, D.C. (LOOTPRESS) – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) announced that she will forgo her salary for the duration of the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The federal government officially shut down on Wednesday, October 1, and has now entered its third day as Congress remains deadlocked over passing a continuing resolution to fund operations.

The shutdown has forced thousands of federal employees to either work without pay or face furloughs.
While members of Congress are still entitled to their salaries during a shutdown, Sen. Capito formally requested that her pay be withheld.
In a letter to U.S. Senate Financial Clerk Ted Ruckner, she directed that no compensation be issued to her until the government resumes normal operations.
Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-W.Va.) has made a similar request regarding her salary.
