CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – There’s a potential for severe weather throughout most of West Virginia today.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, showers and thunderstorms will develop today ahead of a cold front approaching from the west.
The western half of the state is under a Slight Risk for severe weather while the eastern half is currently under a Marginal Risk.
Damaging winds are possible with some of the stronger thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
Other possible hazards include small to marginally severe size (1”) hail and an isolated tornado that cannot be ruled out.
Isolated flash flooding is also possible, especially across low-lying or flood-prone areas.
While temperatures will remain above normal, afternoon readings will not be as hot as the last several days.
The cold front will push through the area tonight. Relief from the mid to upper 90-degree temperatures comes on Monday.
Tuesday and Wednesday show the heat returning, but another cold front crossing Wednesday into Thursday may bring showers and thunderstorms, and another slight drop in temperatures for Thursday.
