Gardner – With Independence softball head coach Ken Adkins electing to rest all-state ace Delaney Buckland, his decision was positively reinforced with a pair of freshmen stepping up.
Emma Lilly pitched four innings of shutout ball and Savannah Stanley added five innings of one-run ball in the second game of a doubleheader as Indy pulled out a 17-0 win and a 9-1 win over PikeView Monday night in Gardner.
Sarah Bragg carried the hot bat for the Lady Patriots, driving in six runs on six hits on the day and hitting a home run. Alli Hypes had a standout performance in the 17-0 win, driving in five runs.
Indy improves to 14-10 and will travel to Beckley on Tuesday.
