CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Public Service Commission of West Virginia on Wednesday granted a siting certificate for a solar energy plant in southern West Virginia.
The authorization was made to Twisted Gun Solar, LLC, and Twisted Gun BESS, LLC, without the necessity of a hearing. The plant will have no rate impact on West Virginia residents.
On October 9, 2025, the New York-based pair filed to operate a 140-megawatt (MW) solar generating plant in Mingo and Logan counties. It would be located in Mingo County, approximately 8 miles south of Chauncey. It would include an array of 310,000 solar photovoltaic modules.
The project, which could power 84,000 homes daily, includes a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a storage capacity of 70 MW. It would be built on a partially reclaimed surface mine.
The project would interconnect with Appalachian Power Co.’s Pigeon Creek substation by a 9-mile, 138,000-kilovolt line. Part of the line would be in Logan County.
Testimony provided by the companies said the operation would produce 1,099 jobs in the state and provide more than $2.4 million in annual earnings for the state during operations.
The companies’ parent, MN8 Energy Operating Co. LLC, bills itself as “one of the largest and most sophisticated independent solar energy and energy storage power producers in the United States.”
