SOPHIA, WV (LOOTPRESS)— A Sophia man is facing serious charges after police say a domestic incident turned violent early Saturday morning.
According to authorities, officers responded to an apartment at 150 Maple Street around 1:30 a.m. on August 16, 2025. The victim reported that during an argument, 19-year-old Jamarion Karmelo Henderson choked her three times, pushed her onto a bed, twisted her ankles, poured water over her head, pulled her back inside by her hair, punched her in the head, and bit her arm twice.
Officers noted visible injuries on the victim, including red marks on her neck consistent with strangulation, two bite marks on her arm, and wet hair and clothing. Henderson also had scratches on his face and arms, which police say were consistent with defensive wounds.
Investigators say Henderson admitted to physical contact and was overheard saying he had “lost control” and needed “better control of himself.”
Based on the evidence, Henderson was charged with strangulation under W.Va. Code §61-2-9d and domestic battery under W.Va. Code §61-2-28(a).
