Southern WV Community & Technical College has announced plans to provide high school students in the area with free access to college classes for its upcoming Spring semester.
This offer has been extended to students in the Logan, Lincoln, McDowell, Mingo, and Wyoming County districts, and applies to public, private, and home-schooled students. Qualifying course types will include hybrid, online, and traditional, in-person classes.
Southern President, Dr. Pamela L. Alderman, has given the green light for the omission of all fees and tuition costs for students in the qualifying districts. With this waiver, textbooks would be the only expense for which participating students would be responsible.
In commenting on the announcement, Dr. Alderman remarked, “This is a wonderful opportunity for our area high school students to get a jump on their college education.”
Registration for Southern’s full-term classes had initially been set to close the evening of January 12th, 2022, at 5pm. However, in the interest of accommodating potential students interested in taking advantage of this unique opportunity, course registration has been extended to January 21st, 2022, at 5pm.
Southern has encouraged students and parents interested in obtaining more information on this offer to get in touch with their high school counselors, or to contact a faculty member at the college online through the SSConnect platform, which can be accessed at www.Southernwv.edu/ssconnect.
