PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Firefighters from several southern West Virginia departments are assisting with response efforts at the massive warehouse fire in Parkersburg that prompted Gov. Patrick Morrisey to declare a State of Emergency for Wood County.
According to the Nicholas County Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the Fayette-Nicholas Joint Task Force was briefed by Lubeck Fire Department Chief Mark Stewart after arriving at the scene.
The task force is led by John McGinnis and includes firefighters from the Summersville, Wilderness, Fayetteville, Oak Hill, Pax, Boomer and Montgomery fire departments, who are providing additional manpower to crews battling the fire.
The firefighters are assisting local responders as efforts continue to contain the blaze at the Peoples Cartage warehouse on Camden Avenue.
The fire has drawn assistance from agencies across the state, while the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency continue monitoring air quality and evaluating any potential environmental impacts. State officials have said no air quality readings requiring additional protective actions have been detected.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
