CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia Board of Education members voted Wednesday to close three schools in Kanawha County.
The West Virginia Board of Education voted Wednesday at its meeting to approve an amendment to Kanawha County Schools Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan to close Marmet Elementary, Grandview Elementary, and George C. Weimer Elementary.
Marmet Elementary School is proposed for closure and consolidation into the existing Chesapeake Elementary School.
Grandview Elementary School is proposed for closure and consolidation into Edgewood Elementary School and Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary School.
George C. Weimer Elementary School is proposed for closure and consolidation into Alban Elementary School and Bridgeview Elementary School.
“It’s heart-wrenching, it’s unfortunate that we can’t have small schools in every community,” State BOE Member Debra Sullivan stated after hearing about community reaction to the closures.
These closures and consolidations were approved by the Kanawha County Board of Education and are proposed to occur at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
