CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Anticipating snowfall and dangerously cold temperatures, Gov. Patrick Morrisey has declared a State of Preparedness for all 55 counties in West Virginia.
The declaration, which takes effect immediately, will remain in place through Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025.
According to the governor’s office, the move is intended to ensure state agencies are ready to respond quickly to weather-related emergencies that may develop during the upcoming period of winter conditions.
Under the order, Gov. Morrisey directed state personnel and resources to prepare for possible mobilization and response efforts.
He also delegated certain administrative authorities to the director of the West Virginia Emergency Management Division, allowing the agency to more efficiently provide essential emergency services if needed.
The governor and the WVEMD are urging residents statewide to closely monitor local weather forecasts and media reports, remain aware of changing conditions, and follow any guidance or instructions issued by emergency management and public safety officials as the winter weather moves into the state.
