NEW ORLEANS — The Sugar Bowl, originally scheduled for Wednesday night, has been postponed to Thursday, Jan. 2, following a deadly attack on Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning.
Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley announced the rescheduling during a news conference, citing the tragic events that claimed 15 lives and left dozens injured.
The attack occurred shortly after 3 a.m. when a man allegedly drove a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street while firing shots. The suspect was killed by New Orleans police after he allegedly fired at officers.
The FBI, in a release Wednesday afternoon, identified the suspect and confirmed the discovery of explosive devices both at the attack site and in the French Quarter.
Authorities are investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.
The Sugar Bowl will now take place at the Caesars Superdome on Thursday, with heightened security measures in place.
