MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A threat to a Berkeley County High School was received over the weekend and has reportedly led to the arrest of one suspect.
A statement shared by Spring Mills High School Principal Mark Salifa, which was subsequently shared by Superintendent of Berkeley County Schools Ronald E. Stephens IV, indicated that a threat involving Spring Mills High School was received on Sunday, September 24, 2023, by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies with the department are said to have worked throughout the day conducting an investigation which ultimately led to the isolation of the source of the threat received.
The suspect was reportedly located by deputies and the residence of the suspect was subsequently searched. This search is said to have led to the discovery of no dangerous weapons or firearms, and there is believed to be no threat to the public at this time.
The suspect in question was arrested for their role in the threat, however, and parents and caregivers of students have been advised to ensure that students are aware of the potential repercussions of social media misuse.
“I want to thank law enforcement for their many hours spent with the investigation and their swift arrest actions,” said Principal Salifa. “Parents/caregivers, please review the importance of making good decisions with the use of social media and that actions such as this can result in serious consequences.”
The nature of the threat itself and the means of issuance have not been disclosed at the time of writing, though it is heavily implied that it involved the use of social media. Additionally, the identity of the suspect involved in the threat has likewise not been disclosed.
