SLANESVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An alert was issued in the early hours of Tuesday morning by the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office indicating that an individual is reportedly impersonating law enforcement in the Slanesville area.
The Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office reports that in the late evening hours of Monday, March 20, 2023, deputies with the department responded to the area of Voit Road/Old Martinsburg Grade Road in Slanesville. There, a female caller reported that a UTV operated by a male subject attempted to conduct a traffic stop on her vehicle by flashing red and blue lights.
The subject was reported to be male and is said to have been wearing a “hoodie style shirt.” More than one attempt was made by the subject to stop the vehicle of the caller, but reports indicate that, “sensing something was out of the ordinary, the female continued to a safe area, calling 911.”
Following the report, officers canvased the area in question but were unable to locate the subject. The Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office warns that travelers should exercise caution, especially when traveling alone.
“Citizens are advised to use caution if traveling alone, and report any suspicious activity to 911 immediately,” the department said in a statement. “Anyone with information about the above reported incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (304) 822-3894. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through our website.”
