HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A teacher at Summers County High School has been arrested following an incident involving two students and a staff member, according to the Summers County Sheriff’s Department.
On Friday, November 7, 2025, Deputy J.L. Farmer responded to a report of an altercation involving two students and a teacher at the school.
During the investigation, Deputy Farmer found that two juvenile students had been involved in a physical fight. As the altercation ended, a teacher intervened and assaulted one of the students.
The teacher was identified as Ashley McMillan, 42, of Hinton.
On Monday, November 10, 2025, Deputy Farmer obtained an arrest warrant for McMillan on one count of Child Abuse Creating Substantial Risk of Injury by a Person in a Position of Trust and one count of Battery.
McMillan was later taken into custody and arraigned in Summers County Magistrate Court.
“The Summers County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the public concern that arises from incidents within our schools,” the department said in a statement.
“We appreciate the community’s patience, understanding, and continued support throughout this investigation. We also extend our gratitude to the Summers County Board of Education for their cooperation and assistance.”
Chief Deputy T.S. Adkins added, “I would like to wish sincere appreciation to Deputy Farmer for his thoroughness, professionalism, and dedication in concluding this investigation.”
