CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – President Donald Trump has approved public assistance funding for ten West Virginia counties following a request from Governor Patrick Morrisey.
The approval applies to Greenbrier, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Monroe, Summers, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.
The Public Assistance (PA) Program provides grants to state and local governments, as well as certain private nonprofits, to cover expenses related to debris removal, emergency protective measures, and infrastructure restoration.
“Thank you to President Trump for approving my request for Public Assistance as we continue to help southern West Virginia recover,” said Governor Morrisey.
“The President has supported us every step of the way and we are grateful for this additional federal assistance.”
In addition to public assistance, six counties—Logan, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Wayne, and Wyoming—have been approved for Individual Assistance.
Other counties under both assistance programs remain under FEMA’s consideration.
All counties in West Virginia remain eligible for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, which provides funding for projects aimed at reducing future flood risks and assisting Public Service Districts with wastewater treatment and other long-term hazard mitigation efforts.
Governor Morrisey encourages residents and local officials in approved counties to apply for assistance as soon as possible.
Information on how to apply is available on FEMA’s website.
