MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A controlled delivery of a suspicious package from Texas led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man at a West Virginia hotel earlier this week, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
On April 8, Deputy J.F. Cardello, working as a Task Force Officer with the Sheriff’s Office, was notified by U.S. Postal Service Special Agent T. Phillips about a suspicious package addressed to Rogelio Valdez at the Comfort Inn on Edwin Miller Boulevard in Martinsburg, room 411.
A federal search warrant was obtained for the package. Upon inspection, investigators found approximately 11.4 grams of suspected cocaine.
The packaging was consistent with drug redistribution, authorities said. The package was resealed and retained in law enforcement custody.
The next day, on April 9, Special Agent Phillips completed a controlled delivery of the package to the hotel while Berkeley County deputies maintained surveillance.
Around 8 p.m., a man entered the lobby, requested a package, and identified himself by name multiple times.
Officers arrested the man after he received the package. He was identified as Rogelio Ochoa Valdez, a Mexican citizen.
Valdez was taken to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office for processing and later arraigned on a state charge of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
He is currently being held at Eastern Regional Jail.
