WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – More than 6,000 customers remained without electricity across West Virginia Sunday morning after another round of heavy rain and storms caused flooding and other problems across the state.
According to PowerOutage.us, 6,262 customers were without power Sunday morning out of more than 1 million customers tracked statewide.
Kanawha County reported the largest number of outages with 2,659 customers without service. Fayette County had the second-highest total with 1,204 outages.
Other outages included 602 customers in Boone County, 241 in Clay County, 209 in Mason County, 192 in Gilmer County, 163 in Harrison County and 125 in Braxton County.
The outages come as portions of West Virginia continue to deal with the effects of repeated rounds of heavy rainfall. Fayette and Raleigh counties have been among the areas experiencing widespread flash flooding following storms that moved through the region.
The National Weather Service continues to monitor rainfall across the region as already saturated conditions increase the risk of additional flooding.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for a large portion of West Virginia through Monday morning, with additional rounds of heavy rainfall capable of causing flooding along creeks, streams and other low-lying areas.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways and use caution around downed trees and power lines.
