FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Town of Fayetteville has announced a three-day lineup of events to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, with activities scheduled July 2-4 at several locations throughout town.
The celebration begins Thursday, July 2, at the Love Hope Center for the Arts. Events include the Fayette County Community Chorus Concert and a historical perspective presented by Danny Wright at the Fayette County Courthouse Main Courtroom beginning at 5 p.m. A Carl & Friends stained glass opening reception and cookout will follow at 6 p.m.
Festivities move downtown on Friday, July 3, with vendors open from noon to 9 p.m. The Fayetteville Freedom 250 Soap Box Derby will take place from noon to 3 p.m., followed by the Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom Fourth of July Parade at 5 p.m.
After the parade, attendees can enjoy an old-fashioned cake walk and youth cookie walk on the stage, along with frog jumping. Face painting will be available from 6 to 8 p.m., and the Exiles Band will perform from 6 to 9 p.m.
Activities continue Saturday, July 4, at Charlie McCoy Town Park. The Fayette County Farmers Market Fourth of July event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the courthouse parking lot. Vendors will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., while inflatables will be available at the baseball field from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for a $5 day pass.
The afternoon schedule includes a hula hoop contest at 2 p.m., a sack race at 2:30 p.m., a hot dog eating contest sponsored by Tudor’s Biscuit World at 3 p.m., a patriotic pet contest at 3:30 p.m. and a balloon toss at 4 p.m.
A mechanical bull will be available from 4 to 9 p.m., face painting will return from 6 to 8 p.m., and the Black Knight Satellite Band will perform from 6 to 9 p.m.
The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display at dusk on July 4.
