MINGO COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Juvenile petitions have been issued against three students in connection with the recent “Cat in the Hat” trend involving students in Mingo County, according to the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department.
The department announced the development as part of its ongoing investigation into the incidents.
Authorities did not release additional details about the students or the allegations involved.
The sheriff’s department said no further information will be released at this time because of the ages of those involved and confidentiality requirements surrounding juvenile matters.
The “Cat in the Hat” social media trend involves users sharing eerie, AI-generated or digitally altered images and videos depicting a menacing version of the Dr. Seuss character, often resembling the character portrayed by Mike Myers in the live-action film, appearing outside homes, in neighborhoods and near schools at night.
The Mingo County Sheriff’s Department said it takes matters involving student and school safety seriously and will continue working with school officials and other appropriate authorities as the investigation continues.
