MAHAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – All northbound lanes and one southbound lane of the West Virginia Turnpike have reopened following a major overnight crash that shut down traffic for several hours near mile marker 66.
The crash happened around midnight when a northbound tractor trailer rolled over and spilled its load of heavy plastic pipes into the southbound lanes.
Two southbound tractor trailers collided with the debris, crashed, and caught fire.
The flames spread into nearby brush, igniting a fire that took local firefighters several hours to put out.
Although the crashes and fire caused significant traffic disruption and vehicle damage — including to three additional cars — no injuries were reported.
Cleanup crews and emergency responders worked through the night to clear the wreckage and reopen the roadway.
