GLEN JEAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Motorists traveling through Fayette County should expect heavier-than-normal traffic beginning Wednesday as thousands of Scouts, leaders and volunteers arrive for the 2026 National Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jean.
Scouting America said approximately 15,000 Scouts, leaders and volunteer staff from across the nation will attend the 10-day event, which officially opens July 22 and runs through July 31.
The largest traffic impacts are expected during participant arrival on July 22 and departure on July 31, when buses, support vehicles and increased pedestrian activity will be present on roads serving the Summit Bechtel Reserve and surrounding communities.
Scouting America said it is working with state and local officials to help manage traffic during the event and is encouraging drivers to plan ahead.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, follow posted traffic signs and directions from law enforcement officers, and remain alert for buses, support vehicles and pedestrians traveling throughout the area.
While the National Jamboree is expected to generate a significant economic boost for southern West Virginia through hotel stays, dining, shopping and tourism, the organization said local residents and visitors should be prepared for increased congestion throughout the arrival and departure periods.
The National Scout Jamboree is Scouting America’s premier event, bringing together youth from across the country for leadership development, outdoor adventure, service projects and STEM activities at the Summit Bechtel Reserve.
